Superman at Hogwarts - Chapter 016 [The Obscurus Hope Society (Part 2)]

Kerry certainly knew about the Obscurus. To put it simply, the Obscurus is actually a kind of PTSD: Post-traumatic stress disorder - a mental illness common among soldiers and police.

Kerry nodded to Professor McGonagall and said,"The Obscurus is actually a mental illness. In Muggle terms, it is a disease similar to Stockholm syndrome."

Professor McGonagall did not understand what Kerry was talking about, but she could roughly guess what Kerry meant:"It would be good if you knew."

Professor McGonagall explained,"The Obscurus originally means the dark ones.

They are actually a kind of deformity caused by the inability to release magic for a long time, which eventually leads to the inability of magic to flow smoothly.

Every Obscurus will become crazy in the final stage, and magic will produce self-awareness, or in other words, their souls will be corrupted by magic - in the end, this person's soul will merge with the Obscurus and become a wise Obscurus.

Few Obscurus can live past the age of ten.

Some information I have shows that from the Middle Ages to the present, there are only three Obscurus over the age of 11 in the entire Europe.

There may be omissions, but they are more or less the same.

……"

Professor McGonagall looked at Kerry with a hint of sympathy when she said this:"I suspect you are the Obscurus!"

Kerry thought for a moment and said,"Impossible!"

"There are actually two types of Obscurus. One is the active Obscurus, which causes the accumulation of magic and magic power due to unsuitable environment. The other is the passive Obscurus, which cannot release magic power smoothly due to some defects or characteristics in the body."

"Of course, the endings of both are the same - they will eventually go crazy and die.……"Professor McGonagall explained

"Do you suspect that I am a passive silent person?"Kerry asked

"Yes! I have been observing you for the past week, but you have not released even the smallest magic, or released any magical fluctuations! I think you have realized this problem yourself!" Professor McGonagall finished speaking.

Kerry replied:"I have indeed not been able to release any magic in the past! But can we so hastily conclude that I am an Obscurus? Why can't we say that I am a Squib?"

"There are very strong magical fluctuations in your body! This is not something a Squib can do, such as Argus Filch, the janitor of Hogwarts - if you have seen him, you should be able to feel that his body is like a dried-up spring."

Kerry thought about it carefully, it was true. Filch was the janitor of Hogwarts and the only Squib. As a magician, he didn't even need any special senses. Just relying on the wizard's intuition, he could feel that Mr. Filch had no magical fluctuations at all and was a complete Squib.

Professor McGonagall said,"I think I can ask you a few questions to further confirm it!"

"Please ask!" Kerry also wanted to know whether he was an Obscure or not. If he was, he would have to find a way to solve the problem.

"Have you ever had a magic riot since you were a child? Do you know what I mean by a magic riot?"McGreg asked

"Hermione and Harry both told me about it, but I don't think I have, at least in my memory, I have never had a magical riot."Kerry said

"How long have you been training in magic? Since the first real spell you cast?"

Kerry replied,"57 days. The first spell I cast was 'Clean and Fresh', but I can't even blow a strand of hair!"

Kerry explained,"I can feel that I have a very strong magical power. I have observed the students and professors of Hogwarts, and I am sure that no one can compare with my total magical power - perhaps only Mr. Dumbledore can match me a little bit."

"Really?" Professor McGonagall exclaimed,"You are only 11 years old now. Even Headmaster Dumbledore only acquired such strong magic power after several years of training after he became an adult!"

"I'm basically sure!" Kerry said,"I can indeed sense the fluctuations in magic power in everyone. For example, Professor McGonagall, you probably only have two-thirds to three-quarters of Headmaster Dumbledore's."

Professor McGonagall looked at Kerry in shock. After more than ten seconds, she said seriously,"Your situation seems to be more serious than I thought. You are so sensitive to magic. Just as you said, my magic power is indeed only two-thirds of Dumbledore's. But if that is the case, the magic value you sensed yourself is quite accurate. With such a huge amount of magic power, once you lose control, the Obscurus formed will be an extremely terrifying existence!"

Kerry thought for a while and explained,"Maybe you are a little exaggerated. I don't think there is anything abnormal - the Obscurus should at least have some psychological barriers, but I don't feel these things.……"

"I hope so! Professor McGonagall said,"Let me get to the point. I guess you are an Obscure, so I am planning to introduce you to an association."

"Association?" Kerry asked

"Yes, to be exact: the Society of Obscure Hope!" said Professor McGonagall

"From ancient times to the present, the Obscurus has been a stubborn problem, so there are always a few highly accomplished wizards who try to solve this problem. The Association was founded three hundred and fifty years ago. At that time, the top magicians and alchemists tried to save the wizards who became Obscurus from the flames. They named it Hope!"

"That's a great name!" Kerry said.

"After more than 300 years of ups and downs, the Society now has about 120 members of various kinds scattered throughout Europe, and a few living in America. The Society exists for two purposes: first, to discover the Obscurials in advance to avoid losses.

Second, to study the existence of the Obscurials and ultimately save them!"Professor McGonagall explained.

"Are you a member of the association?"Kerry asked

"I am not only a member of the association, I am even a senior member. The association is divided into three levels: committee, senior members, and hopefuls."Professor McGonagall said,"Are you interested in joining now?"

"Why not?"Kerry said,"It sounds good. I can't find a better solution now."

"Welcome aboard!" Professor McGonagall said happily.
